4 Things Needed For Your Prayer Closet

This might seem like a personal topic but seriously, we as Christians need to be praying more. I was just as bad until……

After watching the movie War Room a few years ago, my eyes were opened. I realized I wasn’t praying enough or the correct way. I wasn’t getting mad at the enemy. I wasn’t fighting for what God wants me to have.

I also took The Armor of God Bible Study (from Priscilla Shirer) with a group of my friends that brought me even deeper into my prayer time.

What’s a Prayer Closet anyways? It’s a private area where you can be one on one with God. It’s also scriptural. Matthew 6:6 says “But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”

It can be a closet or an extra room in your house. It can even be your car. The important thing is, that you start working on a prayer strategy. Praying can be hard for some people, so just start out small and talk to God until you get more comfortable at it. Give God your praises and thank him for everything in your life.

Here are some tips that I have learned over the past few years on getting my prayer strategy together.

  1. Like I mentioned above, get a place where you can be alone. There’s really no time limit you need to stay in your closet but make sure you have no distractions. I know that’s hard for us moms. I get it. Maybe make your prayer time when your husband can take the kids out for a movie or run an errand for you.
  2. Bring your Bible into your closet. Having scripture at my fingers helped me a lot in the beginning so I could flip to different verses. Keep a highlighter with you so you can always go back to those scriptures quickly.
  3. A journal and a pen, of course. This will help you write bible verses down and you can basically keep a log. As you are praying, you can recite the verses.
  4. Keep some kind of system where you can write the prayer requests down and then write down the outcome. You could use a notebook, write down little pieces of paper and then keep them in a mason jar when you those prayers are answered. I created something I call a Prayer Board. I wanted something small enough that people could hang on a wall, sit on a desk or keep in their car. I absolutely love how I see the prayer requests daily and then I write the outcome on the back. They all get tossed in a jar to reflect back on once those prayers are answered.

So, are you ready to get mad and fight? Ephesians 6:11 says this, “put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.”

The devil isn’t playing around so it’s up to us to pray fervently and crush him down. I’m tired of him destroying things in my life. We all have to come together and pray more for our nation, our jobs, our pastors, our marriages, our families, our businesses, our farms. This means war!
