I don’t normally do a lot of celebrating or decorating for Valentine’s Day but I thought it would be fun to give you an updated version of my homemade dog treats. I created the original recipe Pumpkin & Peanut Butter Dog Treats a couple years ago. Boy, do my dogs love them! I also know they are getting quality ingredients and save us money.
I decided to change things up a bit so my dogs don’t get bored with the flavor. Are your dogs spoiled like mine or am I the only one LOL?
The health of our dogs is just as important as the health of us, right? I want to make sure they are given quality ingredients, ones we can pronounce. We feed them a quality dog food but I wanted to make my own dog treats mainly just to save money and it’s fun!
Here are our little sweeties. Two are ours and one is our daughters.
Boone is our oldest. He’s almost eight and he’s an Australian Cattle Dog aka Blue Heeler. He’s so sweet but boy if he doesn’t like you, he’s going after your heels. We sometimes have to introduce him to people. But, once you’ve met him, you can go away for a while and he’ll remember you. He really is the sweetest!
Duke, is our Black Lab. He’s three and he’s like a big teddy bear. He really thinks he’s the size of a Chihuahua. He tries to be big and bad and pounces down our fence line when the cows start to come.
Paisley is my daughter’s sweet little German Shorthaired Pointer. She is so sweet and loving. Actually, they all are. All three of them are the best of buds. They run around and play all day long on our five acres. They come in worn out at night.
What’s really cute is every night around 8pm, they all come and start nudging me. How do they know it’s time for their snack LOL. We love all three of our dogs just like if they were one of our children.
So, in my eyes, Valentine’s Day isn’t just for a romantic day or evening out with your special someone. It can be anyone you love. Don’t get me wrong, my husband and I have been married for almost 24 years and we’ve learned how to have creative Valentine’s Day dinners while raising our two children LOL. We celebrate every day our love for one another! We also choose to celebrate with our non-humans! Happy Valentines Day to all the Doggies out there!!!!
Organic Sweet Potato & Banana Dog Treats
3 cups of Organic Flour (I use my fresh milled flour that I grind myself)
2 Organic Eggs
1 Organic Sweet Potato
1 organic Banana
½ teaspoon of Pink Himalayan Sea Salt
1 teaspoon of Ground flax Meal
1 teaspoon of Chia Seeds
Mix ingredients together. Roll the dough out onto a solid surface about a ½ inch thick. Then use a cute cookie cutter and place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes. Should be slightly soft but crunchy. Store in a clear Mason jar or other clear container. If you are using fresh milled flour, these will last about a week. Otherwise, you could keep them in the freezer or refrigerator, which will make them last longer.
DRY GOODS USED IN THIS RECIPE:
Pink Himalayan Salt: rich in trace minerals – including Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium
